The best CMS with built-in AI

In this article, we highlight some CMS that have already begun to successfully integrate AI…

At the end of last year, CMS MAG organized AInnovación, the first major CMS event focused on artificial intelligence (AI), where the cream of the crop—both nationally and internationally—presented their latest advances. All of the presentations can be watched for free on YouTube at any time.

Not only did the event showcase excellent CMS solutions designed to handle massive amounts of content (perfect for large news outlets), but it also featured several companies dedicated to building Digital Experience Platforms (DXP). Among all of them, we’re highlighting a few below:

AI in Glide Publishing Platform

Glide Publishing Platform’s appearance at AInnovación was a masterclass in how to approach AI within a CMS.

Aside from that, Glide ranks among the top CMS with built-in AI not just for the correct way it implements AI, but also for the AI features it provides—automated summaries, text generation via an assistant, image generation, automatic translations, and audio generation from voice input.

On the cutting edge, Glide offers a feature called Preflight Health Check, which is fully customizable. In general-interest media, for example, it reviews an article and uses a color code to indicate whether the six core journalism questions (Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How) are clearly addressed.

All this is brought together under an AI system they call GAIA, which CMS MAG has been covering closely over the last few years. Here are its main features:

  • Ready-to-use AI system that requires no customization or complex integrations.
  • Saves time, improves quality, and optimizes production.
  • Freedom to choose from over 20 AI models.
  • Protects intellectual property by preventing AI models from using your data for training.

Additionally, Glide offers the possibility of helping any media outlet build its own AI model.

AI in Labrador CMS

Labrador CMS, a well-known web content management system from Norway, also made the trip to present its product in Spain and discuss its AI capabilities.

Before showcasing its AI features, the presentation emphasized one of its greatest strengths: an editing experience that delights any journalist, placing the user at the center of the CMS. In addition to publishing an article in seconds, you can automatically generate a chart based on its content, create a title, a subtitle, and an image—and your piece is ready to go live in very little time.

The platform’s goal is to make the process as quick and simple as possible. One of Labrador’s fundamental principles is that the CMS should be invisible. When writers work in Labrador, they do so directly in the final page layout, not in a preview screen, allowing them to see immediately how their content will look on both mobile devices and desktop. What you see is exactly what will be published.

Its AI is meant to assist journalists, speeding up their work rather than complicating it. Labrador is a cloud-based platform with integrated AI that includes multiple AI-driven tools. Some of its key features are:

  • Automatically generating charts by analyzing article content and extracting key data.
  • Creating titles, subtitles, and texts optimized for SEO.
  • Efficiently and consistently organizing tags and categories.

Although Labrador’s AI systems are sophisticated, the team acknowledges that the most commonly used AI tools today are often the simplest ones—those that save time and take care of tedious tasks like tagging, optimizing articles, or automatically translating news stories.

AI in Xalok CMS

We can’t highlight every CMS’s AI features, but we also didn’t want to overlook one of the most prominent CMS in Spain in recent years: Xalok. Xalok was present at AInnovación as well:

Xalok AI Assistant features AI tools focusing on three key areas within a newsroom workflow:

  • Creation: A variety of tools that assist writers in generating content.
  • Insights: Tools that offer ideas before content creation.
  • Reach: AI-based tools that facilitate content distribution.

In addition, Xalok has developed its AI as an SDK so other CMS can integrate Assistant. Lastly, Xalok stood out for considering sustainability a top priority, always factoring it in when implementing AI features.

AI in Arc XP

Another international CMS that answered CMS MAG’s call was Arc XP, a content management system born within The Washington Post. Initially, they touched on a sentiment shared by many CMS providers: viewing AI as a copilot—support for journalists rather than a replacement. The goal is to streamline work by removing repetitive manual tasks while maintaining full control over content quality.

Arc XP’s AI implementation is extensive, split into tools (tag recommendations, translations, audio, etc.), enhancements (SEO or headline suggestions, among others), and recommendations (related articles and multimedia).

One success story mentioned was that of Metro World News, a partner that achieved greater efficiency, which in turn drove success and led to hiring more journalists. In that case, AI-powered automatic translations were used extensively, boosting efficiency, increasing profits, and paving the way for hiring additional reporters.

Other CMS using AI

This article has highlighted just a few CMS with integrated AI, but our YouTube channel features additional presentations from Cibeles Group, Protecmedia, Bitban, Liferay, New Script, WordPress, Newspack, and more. Each addresses its own vision and implementation of AI in their CMS, showcasing genuinely integrated features in the software.
