The founder of the company, Dries Buytaert, confirmed that the new version of Drupal CMS will be available to all users by mid-January. While this isn’t entirely unexpected, the real surprise is that the project appears to be on track to launch on its originally planned date.
DrupalCon made a triumphant return to Asia after more than eight years away (last held in Mumbai, 2016). The Singapore event was a major success, packed with announcements. You can catch all the highlights in the following video:
Dries Buytaert announced on his personal blog that the first release of the new Drupal CMS will go live on January 15. To celebrate the launch, Drupal is organizing virtual community events on Zoom. These sessions will last approximately 90 minutes, starting at 5:00 PM and ending at 6:30 PM Central European Time.
In the same post, Buytaert outlined all the innovations coming to this new version of Drupal CMS, with a special emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). AI will assist users in their daily tasks, offering options for automated task completion or step-by-step guidance to help users learn Drupal on the go.
Enhanced Features Introduced in Singapore
Among the improvements showcased in Singapore was an upgraded search system. Drupal CMS now includes a “recipe” or predefined configuration that enables robust search functionality with customizable filters and even an autocomplete feature, ready to be tailored to individual needs.
Another team has been diligently working on a privacy recipe, a feature highly sought after by marketing professionals. This privacy enhancement, presented in Singapore, addresses compliance with global regulations, including the EU’s GDPR. To ensure user privacy by default, Drupal integrates Klaro, offering deep customization options for privacy settings.
Multimedia Advancements and Accessibility
Recent months have also seen significant progress in multimedia handling. A new demo demonstrated improvements like focal point selection and easy adjustments to photo dimensions and aspect ratios.
As an open-source platform, Drupal has always prioritized accessibility. The latest efforts focus on providing real-time feedback and enhancements to ensure an accessible experience for all users.
Integration with Google Analytics and Tag Manager
From day one, Drupal CMS will include seamless integration with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. The team’s goal is to make January 15 a true celebration, enabling users worldwide to host conferences about this new version of Drupal CMS.
