The opening weeks of 2025 provide an opportunity for many organizations to reflect on the past year. Newspack is no exception, highlighting its key achievements from 2024—milestones that are expected to serve as a springboard for further growth in 2025.
- Secured nearly $1.5 million in grants from the Knight and Lenfest Foundations. This funding allowed Newspack to maintain fixed pricing for another year.
- Successfully launched the Revenue Development Program, which guided dozens of participants through strategic growth sprints. These efforts generated over $500,000 in additional revenue for participating publishers within just six months.
- Introduced the Newspack Data Dashboard, enabling publishers to access key metrics easily and benchmark their performance against competitors.
- Migrated an increasing number of clients to its audience management system (formerly RAS), which offers segmentation, targeting, messaging, donor management, membership, and subscription tools.
- Enhanced system reliability, successfully handling the U.S. election night without any technical issues.
- Established a small advisory board comprising editors with real product and development expertise to help shape the platform’s future direction.
Five years after its initial site launches, Newspack has carved out a niche market and become the platform of choice for a rising class of independent publishers shaping the future of journalism. By the end of January, Newspack is projected to power nearly 300 sites generating approximately 100 million page views per month.
Looking ahead, Newspack’s ambitions for 2025 extend beyond the achievements of 2024. The platform aims to provide the essential services all news organizations need while fostering an environment where innovation can thrive. This includes plans to hire more engineers, support staff, and contractors throughout the year.
To achieve these goals, the company is implementing organizational changes, including enlisting a veteran from WordPress’ open-source division to develop a series of developer guidelines designed to pave the way for these initiatives.
Additionally, Scott Klein, formerly an entrepreneur-in-residence at Newspack while leading the Knight Election Hub, will take on the role of customer advocate. In this capacity, Klein will collaborate with support and product teams to ensure the platform continues to meet the evolving needs of its users.
